History of Sumitomo Rubber Industries
Sumitomo Rubber is a
famous Japanese tire and rubber company. It is the initial part of the Sumitomo
Group. They make variety of products such as tires and balls which are used in
different kinds of sports. Sumitomo manufactures three main brands that are
Dunlop, Ohtsu and Falken. The company has been in the industry for more than
110 years it came into existence in 1909 in Japan. The company recorded its
highest revenue in the year 2017 which was around US$7.8 billion. They have
manufacturing plants located in different regions worldwide and have more than
36,000 employees.
It started in the
1900s when the group invested in Dunlop Japan and with that, it became a sister
company of that also known as the subsidiary. Their relationship ended in 1963
and they acquired and named it Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. The company had
a motive and wanted to grow in the tire industry and they proved their every
single move as in 2021 reports they are ranked on the 5th position in the top
tire manufacturing companies.
In the first quarter
of 2014, they also started a venture in a partnership with the famous tire manufacture Goodyear. In that pact, they planned to produce tires to the other
markets and dominate it with the quantity and quality, but their partnership
ended in 2015. Sumitomo has a huge contribution in growing the brand Dunlop and
it is one of the most wanted tire brands in the world. Sumitomo also export
tires to almost every region in the world.
